Buyback Info

When is book buyback?
Book buyback is held at the front of the bookstore two to three days during the last
week of the Semester.  The actual dates are posted on signs around campus and on our
"Hours" page.

How much will I get for my books?
If the instructor informs the bookstore that a book will be required for the forthcoming semester, the buyer will pay 50% of the current list price (regardless of whether you bought the book new or used).  Books not being used here will have values ranging from 10% to 30% of the new price, depending on their resale value across the country.

Variables that could affect what you will receive for your books are:

•  New edition released by the publisher

•  The bookstore has filled its quantity needed

•  Wholesaler's warehouse is overstocked

•  The subject matter is too specialized

•  Workbooks that can not be reused

•  Books that are excessively written in cannot be purchased.

How does the Buyback work?
The buyback is one way for you to recycle your books on this campus and other campuses around the country.  The bookstore works through a used book wholesaler
to conduct the buy.  You may bring in any books you don't wish to keep.  Then the
buyer scans your books, totals their value and pays you cash for them.  Usually the
buyer will tell you the total for all of the books but you can request a price breakdown and make decisions on selling or keeping each individual book.

Books on the store's list for next semester are worth half of the new price and are resold here at 75% of the new price.  Amounts paid for books not on our list come from the wholesalers buyer's guide and are based on nationwide demand.  These books are shipped to the wholesaler's warehouse and resold to other college bookstores throughout the country.  The bookstore, in turn, places orders with used book companies for books not previously used on this campus to provide a wider selection of used titles for you.

Most textbooks remain current editions for only three or four years from their latest publication date.
The sooner that you sell your books after each semester, the better your chance of receiving 50% - because it is at this time of the year that our inventory is most depleted and the time we are receiving orders for the next term.  By the time classes for a new semester start, we have already stocked  the book in adequate quantities.
